Recipe: Five-Spice Chicken Wings

Delicious chicken wings, great as part of a main or part of a party
Ginger Sky Ltd

This chicken wing recipe is really simple to put together and tastes great either with rice or a bed of salad. If I’m throwing a party I like to put the wings in a bowl and sprinkle some chopped spring onions and red chilli over them.

Ingredients:
1kg chicken wings (approx 15-20 pieces)
3 cloves of garlic
2 tablespoons light soy sauce
fresh ginger (about the size of your thumb)
1 tablespoon of groundnut oil
2 tablespoons of rice wine
2 tablespoons of honey
2 teaspoons of five-spice

Serves 3-4
For parties the recipe is scalable so can make as much or as little as you need

How to make:

To begin, peel and grate the ginger and peel and crush the garlic. Put these both in a bowl with the soy sauce, groundnut oil, rice wine, honey and five spice. Mix the marinade together and then add the chicken wings. Make sure the chicken is covered in the mixture, cover the bowl and leave to marinate. This needs to be left at least 10-15 minutes, although ideally should be done the day before and left in the fridge.

Once you’re ready, preheat your oven to 180°C and place your marinated chicken onto a roasting tray and cook for around 25 minutes.

How you want to serve it is entirely up to you, this recipe can go with almost any side. Personally I think it tastes best with boiled rice, noodles or some salad. And, like I mentioned, if you’re using the chicken as finger food, roughly chop some spring onions and/or a red chilli and sprinkle on top to add a bit of colour and an extra kick to them.
